APM Terminals Algeciras strengthens its commitment to safety and the use of PPE on Global Safety Day

A week of activities to promote a culture of prevention, under the slogan “We start with safety”.

Nothing is more effective than understanding the consequences of careless driving. That is why APM Terminals Algeciras invited Fundtrafic, a foundation that supports accident victims, to its facilities this week to offer its employees the opportunity to experience simulators ranging from vehicle rollovers to driving under the influence of alcohol. The initiative was part of Global Safety Day, which was held under the slogan “We start with safety”.

Based on this year's slogan, informal talks were held with workshop staff, with those working on the quayside and on vessels, to find out how they start their day safely. ‘Over the last few days, we have taken note of many initiatives that have been reported to us. But this communication must be constant, so that we can learn from those on the front line and act before an incident can happen,’ said Pablo Segura, Head of HSSE at APM Terminals Algeciras.

‘If someone from outside the terminal enters without wearing personal protective equipment, it is very likely that they will not wear it at all. It is a matter of a change in mindset, and after investments and efforts that have made us improve a lot in recent years, it is time to commit to that change," added José Miguel Carreño, Chief Operations Officer at APM Terminals Algeciras, during Global Safety Day, which also featured a road safety awareness talk by Francisco Canes from Fundtrafic.
