Monvir Digitizes Container Flow – with APM Terminals’ API Integration

gothenburgMonvir handles a quarter of all container exports passing through APM Terminals Gothenburg. Forest products arrive here directly from Swedish mills for intermediate storage before being shipped across the globe. Now, Monvir is taking the next step by digitalizing its operations using APM Terminals’ API solutions – enabling a faster, smoother, and more reliable container flow.

“We’ve wanted an API integration for a long time. As our business grew, the work became increasingly manual and time-consuming. It was simply unsustainable to keep copying and pasting container data between systems,” says Daniel Eriksson, Digital Developer at Monvir.

With the API solution, information is transferred in real time. Two automatic push notifications are sent – one when an empty container is delivered to the exchange area, and another when a loaded export container is ready for pickup. The data flows directly from APM Terminals’ operational system into Monvir’s internal management system and appears instantly in the machines – completely eliminating manual handling.

“Every minute counts, and this integration helps us avoid unnecessary delays and uncertainty. We know exactly where the containers are – from the moment they arrive empty to when they leave us as exports for further handling by APM Terminals,” Eriksson explains.

“This gives our customers a more reliable supply chain, with greater precision and a reduced risk of missing closing times.”

The collaboration between Monvir and APM Terminals has been close and solution-focused. “We’ve shared a common vision of the opportunities digitalization offers. Once we had the chance to implement the API integration, things moved quickly,” he says.

Emma Klofsten Tendell, Customer Care Manager at APM Terminals, sees strong value in staying closely connected to customers – digitally as well.

“We’ve developed a well-structured internal process for this type of digital integration. Although this particular solution was custom-built for Monvir, we’re able to replicate and adapt it for other customers,” she says, and adds:

“We’re excited to see the digitalization journey gaining momentum. There’s strong interest, and we’re continuously managing new requests.”
