Our Terminal
Operations at APM Terminals MedPort Tangier were officially launched in June 2019, following an investment of more than USD 800 million. It is one of the most technologically advanced, safest and efficient terminals in the world. The terminal complements the existing APM Terminals Tangier facility located at the Tanger Med 1 port complex, which started operations in July of 2007 and has an annual capacity of 1.8 million TEU.
The facility is located at the Tanger Med 2 port complex, and is designed, constructed and operated by APM Terminals. APM Terminals MedPort Tangier serves as a transshipment hub for Maersk Line and its alliance partners and help improve global supply chain performance by attracting more vessel calls and creating more routing options. The terminal has two expansion phases planned.
The second phase of development commenced in April 2021 and is currently on schedule to be fully operational in Q1 2024. The third phase is planned to be operational in Q1 2025. In total, the investment will increase capacity by more than 2.1 million TEU, cover 35.5 Ha and increase the quay length from 1200m to 2000m. In April 2021, phase 2 of the development commenced. Once completed this will add an additional 400m of quay and increase annual capacity by 1m TEU to 5 million TEU.
Location
Located on the primary East/West shipping route through the Mediterranean Sea, APM Terminals MedPort Tangier provides a natural transshipment location for cargoes moving on vessels to and from Africa, Europe and the Far East. Every year, over 60,000 cargo vessels pass through the Strait of Gibraltar on major liner services linking Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa.

State-of-the-art automation
With 2,000 meters of quay, the deep-water terminal will employ both conventional and advanced technology operations, and a truck gate system. The 12 remote-controlled super post-Panamax cranes are the world’s largest double trolley Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, weighing 2,500 metric tons, a height of 144 meters when boomed up, and an outreach of 72 meters with twin-lift/tandem lift capability.
The remote-controlled cranes will provide the fastest, safest and most efficient loading and unloading services to the newest Ultra-Large Container Ships (ULCS) with capacities of more than 22,000 TEU. 42 Automated Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes (ARMGs) will also be deployed across 21 container yard blocks.
